I achieved a BA in graphic design many moons ago but have discovered that my heart belongs to fine art, specifically portraiture. All faces are of interest to me and a delight to paint. My aim is to capture a person’s special personality in the portrait that I create.

Your Story!

It's important to recognize that a painted portrait is not a photograph! I know that seems like an odd thing to say but my aim is not to produce an absolutely perfect replication of a photograph,. Paintings are a combination of considered marks that merge together to give an impression of an image. Some areas may be highlighted and some areas less clear when they are not so important in the “story”. Up close you will see blobs and paint marks and seemingly it doesn’t make sense but as you more away the picture comes together and your imagination connects with the paint marks to experience an emotional journey. Rather like a visual poem!

That to say, I do paint from photographs. If you decide that you want me to paint your portrait, I will take photographs at a live sitting to work from. The images are very much part of the process of producing an accurate and characterful image that will provide the necessary light and detail resulting in an accurate portrait of long-lasting appeal.
